VCU ASDA Pre-Dental Day

We would like to formally invite you to participate in our VCU ASDA Pre-Dental Day on March 22, 2013!

The event will last from 11am-5pm and lunch and afternoon refreshments will be provided. This event is an excellent opportunity for you to get a hands-on idea of what life in dental school would be like.

This year we will be having two different tracks for the event. Track 1 is for first and second year undergraduates considering applying to dental school. Track 2 is for third and fourth year undergraduates and post-graduate students considering applying to dental school. We hope that this will give you an experience that is more tailored to your needs at the moment, and will give you the opportunity to come back again as you continue through your undergraduate education. We have a limited number of spots for attendees, so please sign up soon, as spots are filling up quickly!

Itinerary:

11am-12:15pm: Lunch and Check-in, Goodie bag pick up. (everyone gets a free Proctor & Gamble Regimen Bag (Manual Toothbrush, ProHealth toothpaste, Glide Floss, ProHealth Rinse) and a VCU Predental Day t-shirt, plus hear from our Dean, Dr. David Sarrett and ASDA VP, Alex Barton!

Track 1 schedule

• 12:30-1:30 Group A: Tour of Dental School & Clinic, Group B: Info session and Q&A with Dental Students, Group C: Wax carving session
• 1:45-2:45 Group A: Info session and Q&A with Dental Students, Group B: Wax Carving session, Group C: Tour of dental school and clinic
• 3-4 Group A: Wax carving session, Group B: Tour of Dental School and Clinics, Group C: Q&A with Dental Students

Track 2 schedule

• 12:30-1:30 Group A: Dentsim Group B: Tour of the Dental School Group C: Mock Interviews

4-5: Closing remarks and Q&A with Dean of Admissions, Dr. Michael Healy

Below describes all events listed above:

Info Session Q&A – use this opportunity to talk to current dental students about applying to dental school. We hope to answer questions you may have concerning the DAT, admission into dental school, and what it is like to be a Dental Student.

Wax Carving – During the first semester of dental school at VCU you will spend many hours carving various teeth out of a wax block in order to improve you hand skills and learn dental anatomy. This session will show you what it is all about, with third and fourth year dental students around to help you out!

Dentsim – Dentsim is a simulation machine that teaches you how to prepare a tooth for a restoration (cavity)- which is something that you will be doing everyday of your dental school career! This session gives you the opportunity to drill on a simulation tooth and get the great feeling of holding a hand-piece for the first time.

Mock Interviews – Going to your first dental school interview can be a really stressful experience! We hope to alleviate some of the stress by having a short Mock Interview session with dental students who have been through the process. We will be asking you questions that we were asked on our many dental school interviews in hopes that you will be a little more prepared for your first interview.
